The ingredients - oil, shallots, garlic, ginger, kaffir lime (limau purut) leaves, tomatoes, lime, mushrooms, lemon grass, cilantro, chicken meat(cuz i eat chicken), fish cake(sorry don't eat shrimp/prawns needed the essence), fish sauce, salt and about 6 cups of water( you can add more if you want).
make sure lemon grass is crushed i put in about 3 stalks, chicken cut into medium pieces(i chose to take the skin off for health reasons, i only used a thigh and drumstick :0) about 4 kaffir lime leaves, about 3 tomatoes cut into to fours, not too much on the ginger a thumb size will do, a few onions and garlic..
i started off by frying the onions, garlic and ginger in oil
then adding about 6 cups of water
added in the kaffir leaves and lemon grass, bring to boil, let the water extract the essence of the kaffir leaves and lemon grass, after that add in the chicken and the fish cake(of course you can choose whatever meat you like) let it boil for about 10 minutes
add in other ingredients - mushroom, chillies, tomatoes .. try putting in baby corn.. for more vegetables, wouldn't recommend mixed veggies though( the ones in the packets) :)
add in the salt(2 tsp, or put more if it's not salty enuff), fish sauce(about 2 tbs will do, this stuff is salty), and vegetarian thai tom yum spicy chilli (originally they use nam prig pow for spice, i don't use this cuz it has shrimp in it)
add in the tomatoes last, you don't want it to like melt in the soup, it's nice to eat it chunky,
and there you have it, garnished with cilantro, eat it while it's hot... definitely clear your sinuses.. if you have it:)
mmmmmm. mmmm.. mmmm.. satisfied wife... I'm the Iron Chef at Home !!!!
"Disclaimer" - i have to admit i got the recipe from the internet, but i definitely cooked it up!!! har har har..

doesn't matter the recipe from the net or you created yourself - most likely nobody has ever tried it, at least in Sabah. Just ask Don about his steamed hot dog special sauce which sold very well in Donggongon - recipe from the net. more expensive than usual - but still people didnt mind paying the extra.
i think i'll try do this often, try out some other recipes i mean, and blog it... seems to be a favorite
